Andy, 30, has worked in hospitality since he was 16 and runs the pub with three staff.
He has expanded the number of cask ales and introduced a wine menu to bring in a regular clientele.
His efforts were recognised by the West Cumbria branch of the Campaign for Real Ale & was awarded Pub of the Season who present a certificate on May 9th 2015.
Andy, who worked at Station Road cafe Veeva! before taking on the free house, said: “I’m chuffed. It’s been a lot of hard grind and long hours so it’s nice to have something to recognise that.”
He hopes to get a fifth beer pump installed in time for summer to host regular guest ales.
It is not the first time he has won a pub of the season award.
He worked at The Pheasant at Bassenthwaite for 10 years, and was bar manager when it won in winter 2005.
